Commencement Announcement Delayed Until After Easter

By Connor Ryan

Sorry, seniors — looks like you are going to have to wait a tad longer.

Fordham officials will most likely hold off on announcing this year’s graduation keynote speaker until after Easter break — less than a month before the university’s commencement ceremony, which is scheduled for May 17, according to Bob Howe, a spokesman for the university.

As a result, this year’s announcement will come later than it has in recent years.

Richard Engel was announced last year on April 8, John Brennan was announced on March 23, 2012 and Brian Williams was announced on March 24, 2011. The address of Mary McAleese, the former president of Ireland, was announced on April 22, 2010.

Howe said “there’s no particular reason” for the late announcement. “It’s just the logistics this year,” he added.

Eight of the last 10 speakers have been white men, heightening big-name recognition but leaving little room for diversity.

Once again the Fordham drag in effect…Tino Martinez as graduation speaker, are you kidding me? Was Mookie Wilson too busy. This is a joke. Fordham drops the ball once again. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
