Nevin Kulangara, GSB ’15, a student government veteran, has been elected executive president of Rose Hill’s United Student Government, according to voting data collected by the Office of Student Leadership and Community Development.

Sarah Skrobala, FCRH ’15, who has been absent from campus this semester while studying abroad in Spain, has been elected executive vice president.

Kulangara captured 61% of the student body’s vote this week, catapulting over his chief opponent Tochi Mgbenwelu, FCRH ’15, who earned 35%.

958 votes were cast this year, compared to 701 last year.

Jenny Lim, FCRH ’15, was elected vice president of communications, narrowly defeating Duncan Magidson, FCRH ’16, 35% to 28%.

Domenick Lasorsa, Katie Peachman and Marisa Schmidt were elected FCRH ’15 senators.

Carter Frazee and Kevin Fulmer were elected GSB ’17 senators.

Kulangara, along with all of next year’s elected representatives, will be sworn into office on April 14 in Tognino Hall at 6 p.m. He will replace Aileen Reynolds, FCRH ’14, as Rose Hill’s top student leader.

“I’m just so happy with the way this campaign went,” he said Friday night. “It was completely civil and I think a lot of students learned about what USG does.”

Kulangara said revamping USG’s website and “setting a tone for the summer” would be among his first tasks as president.

Mgbenwelu, who ran with Anisah Assim, FCRH ’16, released a statement on Facebook soon after The Fordham Ram made the results public.

“I am truly honored and feel extremely blessed to have gone through this campaign experience,” she said. “I do not feel like I have lost at all. Anisah and I’s platform was to bridge the gap between USG and the student body, and I feel as though this was fulfilled just through our campaigning.”
