If the photo was truly taken early last year then this would have been before the flag was adopted into a hate symbol. The flag only recently surfaced with connections to Charlottesville and white supremacy. Originally it was just a meme about being outraged at “pc culture”. I would like to think that when the photo was taken it was simply for a meme. Can never tell nowadays though.
