As Hurricane Sandy Makes Landfall, Food Service and Facilities Employees to Stay On Campus or Nearby

As the brunt of Hurricane Sandy nears Rose Hill’s campus, Chris Rodgers, Rose Hill’s dean of students, is urging for students to stay indoors and immediately communicate concerns or incidents to hall staff members or Fordham’s Office of Security (718) 817-2222.

“Several administrators from all areas of the University met in what is called the ‘Emergency Management Team’ on Friday, coordinated through the weekend and via conference call [Monday] afternoon to manage the emergency, take a variety of safety precautions and maintain services for students,” Rodgers said in an email on Monday.

Among many steps taken to help ensure campus safety and security, Rodgers said a variety of on-campus offices are housing food service and facilities personnel in order to “keep the campus up and running” and supply students with food.

Security staff, more than 120 residential life and student life staff members, health services staff, university transportation staff and counseling center staff remained on campus Monday for students, according to Rodgers.

Ram Vans transported students from residence halls to the McGinley Center for meals Monday afternoon and evening.

As of early Monday evening, O’Hare Hall, Finlay Hall and Tierney Hall were no longer allowing guests to sign-in to the buildings. The Office of Residential Life is urging students not to exit residence halls after 7 p.m. Monday.

In the event of on-campus power outages, students would be re-located to the Lombardi Field House in the McGinley Center. No on-campus residence halls have back-up generators, according to Brittany Cobb, O’Hare Hall’s resident director.
