DO: Take a selfie every once in a while. Selfies raise confidence and add a fun side to your profile. If you take a picture of yourself that you really like, share it with your friends. Friends and followers love to see a person who loves his or her appearance and feels comfortable enough to share that with everyone.
DON’T: Put up any demeaning statuses or pictures or post/comment rude things.
Keep it classy! No one wants to see you being rude or criticizing someone for something they posted if it has nothing to do with you. If someone else decides to post something rude trying to provoke you, resist. This will make the other person look bad and it will ensure that you take the high road and keep your profile positive.
DO: Post cool and fun articles or quizzes. If you find something cool or interesting and you enjoyed reading it, I’m sure that other people would enjoy it too. It spices up your page, showcases your interests and gives your followers a chance to engage with cool quizzes where you guys can discuss the results. BuzzFeed is a good source for articles and quizzes, and sharing those on your page is sure to start some cool conversation.
DON’T: Post anything you would not want your parents to see. The public nature of social media is underestimated and once a picture or status is posted, you cannot take it back. So let’s put it this way: if your parents were to look at your Instagram or Facebook, ask yourself if they would be okay with what they saw. After all, your boss could stumble upon your page, and if it isn’t acceptable for your parents to see, it definitely will not be acceptable for your boss to see.
Social media is a fun and easy way to keep in touch with people you have met throughout your life. Done right, it can bring people together and it can start interesting conversations. However, done wrong, it can have some serious consequences. So, when it comes to posting a picture on Instagram or a status on Facebook, keep it classy.
