Fordham’s softball team received two weekly Atlantic 10 honors for the third consecutive week, with junior Madison Shaw winning A-10 Player of the Week and freshman pitcher Madison Aughinbaugh winning Co-Rookie of the Week. After going hitless in a win over Lehigh in the tournament opener, Shaw batted 7-11 in four games and notched four home runs, including two grand slams. Aughinbaugh came out of the weekend with a 2-0 record, allowing only eight hits and two runs in nine innings and relieving Fordham’s starting pitchers in crucial moments.
The Fordham men’s soccer team announced the first four players of their 2017 recruiting class. Head coach Jim McElderry revealed the acquisition of goalkeeper Nolan Cloney, defender Brandon Golden, midfielder Chris Pensuwan and defender Lachlan Woolsey. “Competition will be challenging for our entire team,” McElderry stated. “I know all four of these student-athletes are up for that challenge and will be positive additions to our team and university.”
Four athletes from Fordham men’s track and field team were awarded Atlantic 10 team selections. Junior Brian Cook was honored with an Academic All-Conference Team selection, while freshmen Michael Petersen, Richard Webber and Ryan Kutch were named to the All-Rookie team. Petersen recorded the top freshman time in the A-10 in the 800m run with 1:51.86, while Webber recorded the top freshman time in the A-10 in the 60m dash and the 200m dash with times of 7.02 and 22.32.
Fordham men’s basketball had two players named to the 2017 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. Junior forward Christian Sengfelder earned his second selection, and sophomore guard Joseph Chartouny earned his first. Sengfelder is a psychology major and, after a 4.00 GPA in the 2016 fall semester, will be able to graduate in only three years.
