The varsity eight won in 7:35.90, which was nearly six seconds faster than Fairfield’s boat. Robert Morris, Canisius, Iona and Sacred Heart rounded out the field respectively.
In the varsity four, both the Fordham A and Fordham B boats qualified for the final. The Fordham A squad won the race in 8:42.20, 16 seconds over the second-place-finishing Fordham B boat.
The junior varsity eight was also victorious, winning in 7:49.30, almost 20 seconds better than Fairfield’s boat.
The novice level had much success at the regatta. The novice four placed second in 9:37.60, while the novice eight also finished second. The novice eight’s time of 8:18.60 was under eight seconds behind first place Robert Morris.
The women credit their recent success to their overall hard work and work ethic.
“The team was so successful this past weekend because of our team’s determination and focus this year,” said senior co-captain Jennifer Amoroso. “Compared to years in the past, this year’s group of girls has a very influential positive attitude that drives everyone to push themselves for the betterment of the team.”
Additionally, the squad’s dedication at practice has contributed to their accomplishments.
“Getting up every morning before 6 a.m. is not a easy task,” Amoroso said. “However, the girls know that waking up early and being ready to practice is what it takes to improve and reach our goals. Therefore, they function on little sleep because they are motivated to perform well as a team at our races.“
The team will be in action this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13, at the Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Following this regatta, the team will travel to Philadelphia for the Kerr Cup on April 19. Then, they will travel to Occoquan Reservoir, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and return to Philadelphia for the Aberdeen Dad Vail Championship.
“The girls are especially excited for A-10s and Dad Vails,” Amoroso said. “A-10s will be an opportunity for us to show how much we have improved over the year, and Dad Vails is always a great race as many alumni and families come to support us.”
The Fordham women’s rowing team continues to improve with each regatta, and the remainder of the season is sure to be flush with excitement in the water.
