Women’s Tennis Falls to Rutgers, 5-2

Though Ball and Ali had a strong showing in the doubles match, both did not play in the singles matches, as the singles games started with players at the third position. Unfortunately, the Rams dropped all five matches, losing each in straight sets.

Senior Angie Dabu started off the singles action for the Rams, when she dropped her match against Vanessa Petrini, 2-6, 7-7 (2). Gina Li then defeated junior Julie Leong 6-1, 6-1, and Lindsey Kayati beat junior Bella Genkina 6-0, 6-2.

At the fouth position, Stefania Balasa upended the Rams’ Hanna Fritzinger 6-2, 6-2, while her fellow teammate Farris Cunningham defeated Anika Novacek 6-0, 6-4.

With the sweep of the singles competition, Rutgers won the match 5-2, improving their home record to a perfect 5-0. The Rams fall to 6-6 on the year, but look to improve in the coming weeks in dual matches.

The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday, April 2, when they host St. John’s University on the Hawthorne/Rooney Courts at 1 p.m.
