Stegen Is Performer of Week
Fordham sophomore Josh Stegen was announced as this week’s Atlantic 10 Conference swimming & diving award for Men’s Performer of the Week. He is the second Ram to receive a weekly honor this season, and it is the first of Stegen’s career. In a week where his team saw meets against both Marist and Boston University, Stegen had a stellar week. He won the 200 freestyle against BU with a time of 1:41.96 and then took home the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.93, both of which are faster than his times in the meet against Marist. Against BU, he also assisted in the 400 medley relay team that finished second at 3:36.65.
Women’s Hoops Ranks Third
Just seven months after winning the Atlantic 10 regular season co-championship (alongside VCU), claiming the Atlantic 10 postseason tournament and even making an appearance against Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament, Fordham Women’s Basketball ranked third in the annual preseason Atlantic 10 coach’s poll. They received 174 total points and only one first place vote. “I don’t pay too much attention to the preseason polls,” said head coach Stephanie Gaitley. “Ultimately our goal is to ‘win the day’ in everything we do… if we do that, then we will have a better chance to be where we want to be in the final poll.”
Williams Honored Again
Senior libero Morgan Williams received her third Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season for her past weeks’ performance, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. She is the first Fordham Ram to receive the honor more than twice in one year, and her four total career honors are the most in the program’s history. In Fordham’s one match of the week against Rhode Island, Williams had 22 digs, tying her own career record for the third time over her run at Fordham. Her current 2019 total of 468 digs is the 13th-most in Division I and the top in the A-10.
Soccer Nears End of Season
Both the men’s and women’s Fordham soccer teams are winding down their regular seasons with the men travelling to Saint Louis University and the women visiting the University of Massachsetts. The women have already clinched a spot in their Atlantic 10 Tournament to be played in St. Louis, and the men are vying for a spot in their tournament, which will be held at Fordham’s Jack Coffey Field.
